Nozomi and Schneider Electric Launch First Security Sensor in RTUs

0
Nozomi Networks and Schneider Electric have unveiled the industry’s first security sensor embedded directly within Schneider Electric remote terminal units (RTUs). By integrating Nozomi Arc into SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs, organizations gain unprecedented visibility at the control device layer of industrial automation systems and field assets. This enables security and operations teams to detect, analyze, and prevent device-level threats and malicious activity without straining existing resources or disrupting mission-critical networks. The result is stronger operational resilience, minimized cyber risk, improved uptime, and enhanced compliance.

“As cyber threats to the world’s energy resources rise, we’re working with Nozomi Networks and our customers in critical infrastructure to double down on effective defenses,” said Jay Abdallah, President – Cybersecurity Solutions at Schneider Electric. “Nozomi Arc Embedded in Schneider RTUs transforms remote terminal units into secure assets, giving operators the visibility they need to respond to threats before they can do harm.”

“We’re honored to team with Schneider Electric to bring Arc Embedded to their RTUs,” said Nozomi Networks Co-founder and CPO Andrea Carcano. “For more than eight years, our partnership with Schneider has allowed us to collaborate to find better ways to protect energy management and automation processes around the world. This latest effort with Arc Embedded extends security to and through industrial control systems, down to the highly remote field assets they manage, which are often left unmonitored and at greater risk.”

An RTU is an industrial device that collects, processes, and transmits data from sensors and actuators in remote or distributed locations such as rural water pumping stations, electrical substations in mountainous regions and more. They operate as a bridge between the field equipment and a central control system, enabling real-time monitoring and control of industrial processes. Widely used in the oil and gas industry as well as other critical infrastructure sectors, Schneider Electric’s SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs offer a cost-effective and secure platform that enhances cybersecurity features, making it a top choice for RTU needs.

By directly embedding Nozomi Arc Embedded into Schneider RTUs, for the first time ever security and operations teams gain visibility into important data from within RTUs, and the field assets controlled by those RTUs including:

  • Updates to RTU endpoint status, including software and hardware inventory, vulnerability details, resource utilization.
  • Level 0 visibility: Arc Embedded extracts process variable data directly from the RTU, enabling unmatched visibility into physical processes and device state – without requiring external polling protocols.
  • Threat and anomaly detection: Arc Embedded detects malicious and suspicious operational actions, like USB or SD card connections/removals, time setting manipulation, changes to control logic and firmware, mechanical manipulations and more.

Arc Embedded transforms existing industrial control systems into secure-by-design assets, offering a fully integrated security layer from an independent vendor that delivers robust, comprehensive protection for today’s in-production systems.‍

Arc Embedded is available now for Schneider SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs via a subscription-based model, available from Schneider Electric, Nozomi Networks, and an extensive global network of Nozomi Networks channel partners.
