In this executive Q&A we hear from Ferroque Systems President Todd Hsu on his journey to become an expert in end user computing and how his company is transforming industry disruption into big opportunities.

  1. Career Journey: Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your career, especially one that shaped your leadership approach at your current company?

One of the most formative moments in my career dates back to 1996, when I was just 22 and decided to start my first business focused on Citrix and server-based computing. I was so committed, or maybe just a little naïve, that I signed a lease on a 5,000-square-foot office space with no real funding or customer base – just passion and belief in the opportunity. Around the same time, Citrix went public and required resellers to become certified. I became one of the first ten Citrix Certified Instructors and spent my twenties traveling the world, teaching Citrix, Microsoft, and Cisco technologies. That experience taught me not just the technical skills, but how to build a business from the ground up. Most importantly, it trained me to focus, adapt, and grind through uncertainty. That foundation still shapes my leadership today.

  1. Career Path: What initially brought you to this specific career path, and how did it lead to your role in this company?

My path into IT started because, frankly, I had trouble understanding my university professors’ heavy accents in computer science classes. I turned to the internet and networking – this was the early ’90s – and quickly became immersed in the potential of emerging technologies. When I encountered Citrix’s WinFrame product, I knew I had found my calling. I started a business focused on Citrix, got certified, and built a reputation teaching and implementing remote access technologies. After two prior ventures, I saw a new market shift forming with vendors consolidating and outsourcing. I knew it was time for a third act. That insight led me back into the business and to where I am today with Ferroque Systems.

  1. Company Differentiation: What makes your company stand out from competitors in the market? Can you share an example that highlights this?

What sets us apart is authenticity and focus. In this business, it’s easy to pretend you have expertise. But real value comes from time invested and depth of experience. We don’t try to be everything to everyone. We focus on what we’re genuinely great at. That’s why our practice is intentionally niche. Our team has put in the hours to earn our credibility. When we say we can deliver something, we mean it, and we have the background to back it up. That focus helps us build trust and long-term relationships, even when competitors stretch themselves too thin chasing trends.

  1. Product Innovation: Are you working on any exciting new products or projects? How do you think this innovation will positively impact your customers?

Absolutely. It wouldn’t be 2025 without talking about AI. We’re leveraging AI across our managed services business – not as a replacement for people, but as a force multiplier. From automating audits and documentation to generating migration scripts, AI is helping us deliver faster, smarter service without increasing headcount. This allows us to scale efficiently and deliver more value to our clients. Our goal is to support more customers with the same team, using AI to boost productivity and quality across the board.

  1. Success Insight: What was the tipping point for your company’s recent success? Was there a change in strategy or approach that others might learn from?

Our recent success came from recognizing and leaning into industry disruption. This is my third time around in this space, and I knew that consolidation, downsizing, and outsourcing were coming. Instead of resisting, we adapted. We hired experienced talent displaced by vendor shifts and leveraged our knowledge of how services should be delivered. That allowed us to step in as a trusted partner, and eventually acquire business others left behind. The key lesson? Big changes create big opportunities, but only if you’re willing to embrace them.

  1. Challenges and Lessons: Can you share a significant challenge your company faced and how you overcame it? What key lesson did that experience provide?

The biggest challenge was staying focused during a time of massive change in the industry. When competitors were pivoting or exiting, we doubled down. Many people ran from the grind, but we saw it as natural selection. The key was belief and focus. We knew we couldn’t be everything to everyone, so we stayed disciplined and specialized. That allowed us to grow while others struggled. The lesson? When the market shifts, don’t chase distractions. Believe in your direction, stay focused, and let that clarity carry you through the chaos.

  1. Leadership Impact: In just a few words, what differentiates your leadership role from others in the company? What impact does this have on company culture or product success?

This is my third time building a business like this, and that experience shapes everything. My leadership style is more refined because I’ve seen what works, and what doesn’t, at scale. I’ve led everything from small startups to 10,000-person organizations. I try to bring the best of both worlds: structure where it’s helpful, and flexibility where it counts. That balance helps us build a culture where people are happy and engaged because ultimately, our people are the most important factor in our success.
