Plug and Play Survey Reveals Enterprise AI ROI Gap

0
A new Plug and Play survey reveals that 74% of large enterprises have at least one AI solution running in production, demonstrating widespread adoption of enterprise AI. However, the report also found that 50% of organizations are either too early to measure return on investment (ROI) or are not consistently tracking AI performance, highlighting a significant gap between AI deployment and business value measurement.

Ninety-three percent of respondents said they are piloting AI or further along. Thirty-seven percent of enterprises running AI in production do so within a single business function, while 32% operate AI across several functions. Just 5% of organizations view themselves as AI native businesses.

As for hurdles to scaling AI, 71% of respondents cited data foundations as the top barrier, followed by governance friction at 53% and integrating legacy systems at 26%.

“Most enterprises have already answered the adoption question. The harder question now is proof,” said Amit Patel, Ventures Partner at Plug and Play. “The companies getting real value out of AI have fixed their data and governance before they scaled.”

The report also covers how enterprises are approaching the build-versus-buy decision, what they look for in AI vendors and how autonomous agents are moving into production.

The full report, “The 2026 Enterprise AI Strategy Pulse Survey” is available on Plug and Play’s website.
