Perforce Software has launched Puppet Edge, a new extension that enables enterprises to better manage and secure network and edge devices. The add-on is compatible with all three Puppet editions—Puppet Core, Puppet Enterprise, and Puppet Enterprise Advanced.
As organizations adopt edge computing to support AI, IoT, and global digital experiences, infrastructure complexity is surging. Many network and edge devices remain unmanaged, creating blind spots that elevate security and compliance risks. Distributed environments introduce configuration drift, tool sprawl, and vendor fragmentation – driving up costs and slowing innovation. *According to Gartner®, “67% of enterprise networking activities are performed manually. The outcomes for these are poor incident management and change performance.” Configuration inconsistencies across firewalls, routers, and edge platforms are a top source of avoidable service downtime.
“With Puppet Edge, we’re tackling the complexity and fragmentation that plague modern infrastructure,” said Jake Hookom, Executive Vice President of Product Management at Perforce. “By extending our automation capabilities to network and edge devices, we’re uniquely positioned to help teams eliminate manual processes, reduce configuration overhead, and close compliance gaps, enabling them to innovate faster without sacrificing governance or security.”
Puppet Edge addresses these challenges by enabling infrastructure and network teams to:
- Apply configuration policies consistently across every environment
- Reduce manual effort and human error through centralized orchestration
- Scale automation confidently to thousands of distributed nodes
Unlike point solutions that only manage edge or network devices, Puppet Edge delivers these capabilities within a single, unified platform – extending Puppet’s policy-driven automation and governance framework across servers, cloud, network, and edge environments. Consolidation eliminates the need for additional orchestration tools or management layers, and resolves blind spots that increase risk and configuration drift.
By incorporating Puppet Edge, enterprises can expect:
- Faster time to market by automating edge device management and reducing management bottlenecks
- Lower operational costs through tool consolidation, streamlined workflows, and reduced manual intervention
- Improved resilience and security with consistent policy management across all environments.
- Protection of prior investments by enabling reuse of existing automation playbooks while transitioning to a unified platform
- Seamless scalability across hybrid environments by managing thousands of distributed nodes alongside traditional infrastructure from a single, centralized control point
This launch reflects Puppet’s vision of unified automation across hybrid infrastructure, empowering organizations to innovate all the way to the edge without complexity holding them back. Looking ahead, Puppet will continue to enhance both declarative and imperative models – offering unmatched flexibility for diverse automation strategies – while leveraging AI-driven insights to optimize efficiency and reduce operational risk.
Puppet Edge is available today as part of the Puppet Core and Puppet Enterprise platform portfolio.
